I have decided to flog my Sex Pistols tix, read a few recent reviews and decided that watching them wheeze around the stage is something I can well do without.
I turned 10 in 1980 and received ‘The Specials’ The Specials and ‘Madness’ Madness for my birthday, much more my bag and great to hear Terry Hall and the chaps have (as they all do at some point) put differences aside and re-formed: BBC Article
Looks likely that they will be playing dates in September / October, so the Sex Pistols tix are getting traded for something that will be much more relevant to my nostalgia bone.
Plenty of time to sort out a Two Tone suit, white shirt, thin black tie with Two Tone chap on and a pair of loafers, not forgetting the pork pie hat. Can’t wait.
Of course the very same year I turned ten, the Ska chaps influence began to be diluted when I went a bought “Ashes to Ashes” from Mere Green Records & Tapes. The last hurrah for my ska life being thrown out of Sutton Odeon for dancing in the aisles when 10 of us went to see “Dance Craze” a film celebrating the UK ska movement through live performance from The Specials, The Selector, The Bodysnatchers, Madness etc. Thrown out for dancing! FFS what were we supposed to do?
